Expansion Vote

Per the other thread, expansion to 14 teams means that each team will lose four (4) players from their current 30-man Yahoo roster and two (2) players from their current 20-man minor league roster.

Should we expand to 14 teams?

Re: Expansion Vote

Full transparency, I voted yes.

Just curious on the guys that voted no, were there specific reasons you said no?

I know this is an anonymous poll but just was interested in what guys were thinking in case there was something I’m not thinking of

You beat me to it. I was going to say, just say you voted. If you want to share how you voted, share. If not, don't. I just want to make sure everyone voted.

Re: Expansion Vote

I voted no(may have accidentally voted twice once on my pc once on my phone but I can't tell) for a couple of reasons.

1. We aren't addressing any of the other issues folks brought up.  I think we need to at least address prospect stashing prior to a discussion on expansion. Other brought up issues they feel need addressed as well but it seems like everyone squirreled the minute expansion was brought up. I think we need to get our house in order before we start putting rooms up on airbnb.

2. The two reasons I'm seeing for expansion besides new and shiny, is that we have an aging owners force and we want the forum to be more interesting. And, like expansion doesn't really address that. Unless the two new owners have a list of young friends a mile long we are still going to have aging owners. We'll just have two additional teams in the mix with them. As far as making the forum more interesting, we have 16 folks in the ultimate football league and thay forum looks like the stands at a St Louis Cardinals game.

3. I think 12 teams is the sweet spot, especially if we address prospect stashing. The more teams you add the more you water down the FA pool and instead of possibly finding bargain bin stars more teams are going to end up having to play the Justin Turners of the league as injuries pile up.

I'm not going to be mad if we expand or anything, but I think we've got other things to look at first in my opinion.

Re: Expansion Vote

Thanks Dustin!  That’s the input I was hoping for.

Maybe it’s helpful to pull the list of issues that have been brought up and centralize them so we can decide how (or if) we deal with them. Then we can figure out of expansion helps, doesn’t change it or makes things worse.

Again, I still land on the side if I’m for expansion but to keep this league as great as has been we should raise and deal with the issues

Re: Expansion Vote

I voted no. Mainly because I think there needs to be more discussion, and a yes vote seemed far too open ended "blank check" like at the moment.

I have said some of my questions in the other topic, and a couple haven't been addressed yet (which is fine, the discussion is still going). But I'm also more of an "if it aint broke, don't fix it" type of guy, so still need to be talked into a reason to expand. I'm not buying the old aging owners as the only reason to do it.  As Dustin said. Adding 2 guys still leaves us with 12 old aging owners and 2 young ones. That feels more like a "we should have succession planning in place" argument than an expansion argument.

I will go either way, like I said, my main reason for a no vote was that there are still too many questions that need answered. Much like the filibuster episode of Parks and Rec when they realized they brought the vote to the town before they had enough support. In theory expansion is probably fine. But need to have all the details before I'd blindly say yes.
